Swish House Adult Basketball Fitness Launches FIBA-style 3x3 in Chicago
Chicago’s Swish House adult basketball fitness class was a proud sponsor of our first professional FIBA-style 3x3 team camp. 3x3 is now an Olympic sport and is spreading the globe as one of the toughest, fittest, and most physically demanding styles of basketball there is!
The best part about Swish House is the innovation within our basketball fitness, skill development, and pick-up basketball community. We’re proud to be one of the world’s first basketball fitness classes to launch a FIBA-style 3x3 pick-up run every Wednesday night - open to anybody who wants to learn how to play the game.
With a fifteen-second shot clock and non-stop play, you’ll get a great sweat and have more fun than in a typical 3-on-3 game. As I like to say about 3x3: “Turn and burn baby!”
Swish House is offering 3x3 FIBA-style pick-up games to our members as a complement to our calorie-torching fitness classes. More than a dozen Swish House leaders who have experience playing FIBA 3x3 are ready to teach you their gold medal-winning 3x3 strategies for scoring efficiently and improving your skills.
Zahir Carrington - a member of Princeton 3x3 - says, “I love 3x3 because it is the perfect mix of streetball and organized basketball. It’s fast-paced and really exciting to watch and play! It’s a sprint to win, and you can’t take any plays off. I also love the bigger impact that the 3x3 game is having on sports. It’s another way for athletes to play hoops professionally and even make it to the Olympics for an opportunity to win a gold medal. That’s why I love 3x3!
So how do you help your 3x3 team win?
Swish House Brooklyn Head Coach Lakin Roland loves 3x3 “because it highlights my strengths: IQ and scoring. It’s quick and a completely different strategy while still being basketball. It’s just another way to play the game I love, and there is more space to create scoring opportunities.”
Zahir explains: “You have to be smart, you have to know how to play multiple positions, and you have to be able to do a lot of different things on the court- shoot, pass, and defend multiple positions. You also need to be in great shape! It’s called a 3x3 sprint for a reason. There is no coach on the court, so you need to be able to really think the game as you play, too!”
“Strategize”, says Lakin, “You will lose every game you play if you approach it like 5 on 5. The scoring is different and the rules are different so you have to adjust your game to it. Know the rules and play to them!”
Here are the FIBA 3x3 Rules (slightly modified for Swish House):
1 hoop, half-court, teams of 3 or 4 (sub when you want, but pros sub every possession!)
8-minute game, or game to 12 on a 15-second shot-clock, no half-time
Shoot for ball
Inside the arc = 1 pt, outside the arc = 2 pts, FTs = 1 pt
No break after scoring; when the ball goes through the hoop, the defensive team immediately switches to offense and must clear the ball by dribble or pass past the arc before they attempt to score. The same applies to a steal or defensive rebound.
The ball gets checked on fouls and out of bounds.
OT: first to 2 pts wins
Swish House coaches will be versed in the rules and will manage the games and scoreboard.
So come check it out. You’ll get more reps, more shots, and get better at the game faster… what’s not to love?
Yours in hoops,
Trevor Huffman - The Godfather of Swish House
